The Freeze Drying Process

The process involves freezing the food, reducing the pressure, and then applying gentle heat to allow the water to sublimate from solid to gas. This careful method retains the nutritional integrity of the raw meat, preserving all natural enzymes, vitamins, and minerals in a highly bioavailable form. Unlike traditional cooking or dehydration, freeze-drying keeps the food’s cellular structure intact, delivering a product that is nearly identical to fresh but with the added benefit of a long shelf life.

Safe Handling and Storage Instructions

Always provide access to clean fresh water.

Keep freeze dried products sealed and stored in a cool dark place.

Wash hands, utensils, counters, food dishes and related areas thoroughly with hot, soapy water after each feeding.

Feeding Guidelines

This can be served dry as a treat or served as a meal booster once rehydrated.

As a meal booster:
To rehydrate, we recommend 1/2 cup of warm water to 1 cup of the green tripe. This can be adjusted depending on your pet’s preference.

Once the warm water is added, allow 2-3 minutes before serving. This should be fed right away.

A general guideline is to start with about 1/4 to 1/3 the volume you would use if feeding wet tripe, adjusting as necessary.

What is one cup of freeze dried equivalent to in fresh green tripe?

Freeze-dried green tripe retains its nutritional value but not its original water content. Typically, one cup of freeze-dried green tripe will rehydrate to an equivalent of about three cups of fresh green tripe. This is because freeze-drying removes about 98% of the water content, significantly reducing its volume and weight compared to its fresh counterpart.

So, when you rehydrate it, you're essentially bringing it back closer to its original state

What is the shelf life of freeze dried?

This product has a shelf life of about 1 to 2 years when unopened. This should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maximize its shelf life. Once opened, the shelf life can vary depending on exposure to air and humidity, which can reintroduce moisture back into the product. To preserve quality and prevent spoilage:

  • Store Properly: Keep the product in an airtight container or reseal the original packaging tightly after each use. This helps to keep out moisture and other contaminants.
  • Use an Oxygen Absorber: You might consider storing the treats with a desiccant packet to absorb any moisture that may enter the container.
  • Refrigeration: Although not usually necessary, refrigerating the product after opening can extend its freshness, especially in humid environments.
  • Consume Quickly: Ideally, use the opened product within 3 months for optimal freshness.
